Get Peace Of Mind With An Elderly Panic Button
A Medical alert system, also known as an Elderly Panic Button or medical monitoring, is a resource for Senior citizens still living independently but are on the cusp of requiring additional assistance to care for themselves. An often invaluable and affordable asset for families with an elderly relative, medic alerts afford peace of mind and security.
The Elderly Panic Button is a wireless pendant which is worn somewhere on the body in case of a fall or other emergency. Most often, it is worn around the neck or as a bracelet, but it can also be worn around the waist. Some systems are designed with motion detectors that send the panic signal if the wearer falls or is unresponsive for too long. The button's transceiver is a base station which houses a highly sensitive microphone and is attached to the telephone line. If the alarm button recipient is responsive during the emergency, the microphone will allow the dispatcher to convey the nature of the emergency through the appropriate channels. The emergency services in addition to the elder's emergency contact number are all contacted in the event the button is pushed or the motion detector is tripped.
There is also an Elderly Panic Button that is equipped with a smoke detector so in the event of a fire the company is contacted and the recipient of the alarm is safe. If the elderly individual needs extra protection in cases of severe illness or injury, there is also a passive alarm. This is a check in system. The person checks in remotely through a signal, usually several times a day. If there is no signal in a 12 hour time period, personnel from the medical alert company are dispatched to the home to check on the recipient of the Elderly Panic Button.

To ensure that everything goes smoothly and there are no problems, it is recommended that more than one Elderly Panic Button is in the home. In addition to wearing one on the body, there should be one in the shower or other areas in which falls are more likely in case of a power outage or battery failure. Having plenty of batteries on hand is also important.
